Fort Knox

Fort Knox, Kentucky was originally a 109,000-acre U.S. army post. Its most popular attraction is the United States Bullion Depository, built in 1935 as a secure storage facility for large quantities of gold which has been turned into a museum.

Half of the U.S. Treasury’s gold is stored in the U.S. Bullion Depository (5,000 tons!), and the museum features fascinating educational and historical exhibits on U.S. history, government, and the military.

Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory honors our nation’s national pastime, as well as the history of the famous Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Guided tours explore baseball’s role in American culture, the machinery used to create baseball bats, and modern bat-making research and technology.

The Museum also features special hands-on exhibits and gives all of its guests a free mini-bat.

Newport Aquarium

The Newport Aquarium features more than fourteen galleries and seventy exhibits and is one of the most popular attractions in the entire state of Kentucky. Check out the five tunnels that wind through the museum, allowing visitors to view thousands of species and the world’s most fascinating natural habitats.

The Newport Aquarium is open 365 days a year.

Mammoth Cave National Park

Kentucky is home to the largest cave system on the planet. The Mammoth Cave National Park offers guided tours inside parts of the cave system, as well as hiking, canoeing, and horseback riding in the surrounding area.

Mammoth Cave National Park is a natural wonder that is undoubtedly a gem of Kentucky and the United States.

Churchill Downs

Located in Louisville, Churchill Downs Racetrack is the home of the Kentucky Derby. Visit the track to watch or bet on thoroughbred horseracing at the world’s most famous racetrack.

Even if you’re not a fan of horseracing, Churchill Downs’ Kentucky Derby Museum offers plenty of family-friendly fun.

Red River Gorge

The Red River Gorge’s stunning landscape makes it a popular spot for tourists and rock climbers. Visitors can picnic while marveling at the Gorge’s amazing rock formations, sandstone cliffs, and the surrounding beauty of the Daniel Boone National Forest. More adventurous visitors can take advantage of the forest’s many hiking trails and waterways.

University of Kentucky Arboretum

The University of Kentucky Arboretum is a 100-acre public garden located in Lexington. Visitors can learn about plants and the environment at the arboretum’s three main features, the Walk Across Kentucky, the Home Demonstration Garden, and the Kentucky Children’s Garden.

The Walk Across Kentucky is a two-mile path that displays Kentucky’s native plants, and the Home Demonstration Garden shows what gardeners can plant in their yards. The arboretum is a must-visit for all nature-lovers.

The Big Four Bridge

You can find the Big Four Bridge at Louisville Waterfront Park. Originally built as a railroad bridge in 1895, the bridge is now a bicycle and pedestrian bridge that links Louisville, KY to Jefferson, IN.

The Big Four Bridge is also known for its high-tech LED lighting system that illuminates the structure with vibrant colors.

Visitors can take the bridge to Louisville Waterfront Park, a beautiful 85-acre public park with biking paths, picnic areas, an amphitheater, and an area for children to play. Many events are also held here year-round.
